Contrasting Vintage Nature Sketches With Modern Design Cues [Art Concept Study 2025]

A series created using public domain sketches from antique nature guides (sourced from public.work). The idea was to blend my 2 favourite aesthetics at the time, that being these vintage depictions of natural life that I was so in love with, and neo-Y2K iconography and UI design cues. The third major element of it all to tie everything together was giving it a worn look, as if it had been chipped away and worn down with time. The intent behind this was partially to deliver texture using displacement mapping and subtractive blending, but also to emphasize the age-discrepancy with the vintage drawings against the space-age symbols it was being paired to.

Ultimately, this concept was never used due to time constraints with the artist resulting in them not releasing a new project.
